One who takes on great self endangerment with unknown risks confidently and curiously must indeed posess a strong adventurer spirit. I envisioned characters with apparent adventurer spirit in both the film "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and the book Into The Wild. The psychological statement I created about having an adventurous spirit fits snug with both of the main characters in the two stories.
Mr. Fox is quite the adventurer I would say because he has a strong desire for doing whatever it takes to get his way, or accomplish a task such as stealing hard apple cider. He looks danger and death straight in the eyes many times throughout the film from planning a very risky rescue mission to save his son, or to steal cider from the humans just because he knew they hated him. He got a form of high from these close encounters. Mr. Fox stops at nothing to conquer the humans and their attempts to kill him and his family. His excuse for stealing the cider, he says, is because he is a "wild animal." Wild animals naturally have inside them a fearless adventurous spirit that helps them to survive. They also posess a great ammount of curiosity and drive towards unfamiliar interesting things. My psychological approach to an adventurous spirit therefore fits perfectly with the personality of the Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Chris McCandless in the book Into The Wild, ever so obviously holds an adventurous spirit. Many different personality aspects and actions he shows throughout his adventure around the United States and in Alaska project his fondness for risk taking and self discovery through the wilderness. McCandless is unhappy with his life and he decides to live life much more simply. He travels around the becomes a "hobo" of sorts and hitch-hikes around the western side of the United States. He has a strong desire to seek peace with himself in nature which pushes him to travel to remote Alaska. His curiosity and natural adventurous spirit trumps over unknown danger and fear he also has inside. Ultimately Chris dies in an old broken down bus on a remote trail in the brush of wild Alaska. According to his uncovered diaries he was successful in finding peace with himself and his life through nature. I don't know about you but Chris sure does seem like a man with a strong adventurer spirit according to his feelings and how he grabbed his own life by the horns, and made it something he could live and die happy with.
